A day in the life
What a working day actually looks like.
Eighteen trades, hour by hour. What arrives, what an assistant handles, and what it refuses to answer. Every one is a composite day rather than a client's records, and there is not a single statistic in any of them.
Contractors and trades
- One Tuesday plumbing contractor The 9pm call went to voicemail. So did the money.
- One Tuesday custom home builder A handful of real inquiries a month. Miss one and you have missed the quarter.
- One August Tuesday HVAC contractor The four o'clock call rang out. By twenty past they had called somebody else.
- The Thursday after a storm roofing contractor The wind was Tuesday. By Thursday the phone had stopped being answerable.
- One Tuesday screen enclosure contractor Half the calls are worth a truck roll. The other half cost you one.
- One Tuesday pool builder Nine months from signature to swim. Most of the questions arrive before the signature.
- One June Tuesday impact window contractor Every June the phone rings. Every October it stops. The questions are the same both times.
- One night restoration contractor The water started at eleven. Whoever answered first got the job.
- One Wednesday electrical contractor Every call sounds the same until somebody mentions a burning smell.
- One Tuesday solar installer Half of what a solar buyer asks is not the installer's to answer. Saying so is the sale.
- One Monday tree service Nobody shops around for a limb on a roof. They call down the list until somebody answers.
- One Thursday remodeler Every free estimate costs half a day. Most of them were never a job.
- One Monday pest control Somebody who has just seen one is not going to think it over. They are going to call the next number.
- One Wednesday lawn or landscape A mowing route and a $30,000 renovation come through the same phone, and the phone treats them the same.
- One Friday cleaning service The one who calls back first gets the house. There is no second conversation.
Professional practices
- One Tuesday dental practice The front desk is good. The front desk is also one person.
- One Tuesday law firm Most of the people who call are not your case. Finding out costs the whole morning.
- One Thursday med spa The questions arrive at ten at night, from a phone, about a face. Nobody is calling at ten the next morning instead.
