Contractors and trades / impact window contractor

One June Tuesday at an impact window contractor.

Every June the phone rings. Every October it stops. The questions are the same both times.

A seasonal trade where the same questions arrive in a wave. A composite day, not a client's records. Nothing here is a measured result.

Time

What happens

What the system does

7:10am

What happens

The first message of the day is about financing.

What the system does

Explains what the company offers and what it does not, from the approved description. Does not quote a rate, because a rate is not a chat window's to give.

8:30am

What happens

Somebody asks whether new windows will lower their insurance.

What the system does

Says it commonly affects the wind mitigation credit, says the insurer decides that and not the contractor, and refuses to put a number on it.

10:00am

What happens

A homeowner asks about state rebate programs.

What the system does

Says what the company knows, points at where the program publishes its own terms, and says plainly that those terms change and to check the source rather than take its word.

11:40am

What happens

Someone wants a price for eleven openings, sight unseen.

What the system does

Explains that openings have to be measured and that anyone quoting without measuring is guessing. Takes the address and the count.

1:15pm

What happens

A question about whether the old frames come out.

What the system does

Answered from the file. Full frame against insert is the most misunderstood thing in this trade, and the answer is already written down.

3:50pm

What happens

A condo association with thirty-one units asks who they should talk to.

What the system does

Recognized as commercial rather than residential and routed to a person immediately. That one does not belong in a queue.

6:20pm

What happens

Season. The desk went home and the inquiries did not.

What the system does

Every one answered. The ones that arrive with a measured opening count go to the top.

9:00pm

What happens

Somebody who has just watched the forecast.

What the system does

Answers what is in stock and what the lead time looks like, and does not promise an install date, because in June nobody honestly can.

The seasonal spike is not a staffing problem you can fix by hiring in June. It is a question problem, and the questions are already written down.

Every line here is a composite. It is not drawn from a client's records and no number on this page is a measured result.
