Contractors and trades / custom home builder
One Tuesday at a custom home builder.
A handful of real inquiries a month. Miss one and you have missed the quarter.
A quieter day than a plumber's, and that is the problem. A composite day, not a client's records. Nothing here is a measured result.

What the system does
6:40am
Slab pour. The phone stays in his back pocket until lunch.
Nothing arrives before seven. Volume was never the problem here.
8:15am
“What is your price per square foot?” The first message of the day, and the one he never knows how to answer.
Explains why that number does not exist: the lot, the site work, the finish level, whether they already own the land. Gives the range he approved and calls it a range.
9:50am
Somebody wants a custom build at a number that is not a custom build.
Says so in the first reply rather than in the fourth week. Points them at what that budget does buy, and does not pretend otherwise to keep the conversation alive.
11:20am
An architect he has worked with twice sends a client over.
Notices the referral, captures who sent it, and puts that one in front of him instead of in the queue.
1:45pm
A couple who own five acres and want to break ground in the spring.
Takes the lot, the timeline, and a number. Does not promise a start date, because a start date here lives in a contract and not in a chat window.
4:00pm
He gets back to the truck and looks at his phone for the first time since seven.
Four things happened. Two are worth reading. One of them is the five acres.
9:50pm
A couple on the couch, third builder's website tonight, comparing photographs.
Answers what they ask about allowances, draw schedules, and what happens when they change their mind at framing. Asks for a number at the end of that, not the start of it.
7:00am
The next morning, before the pour.
The five acres is still first on the list. Nothing decayed overnight.
A handful of inquiries that mattered, not dozens. That is the shape of this business, and it is why the one that arrives at ten at night on a Tuesday cannot be the one that waits until Thursday.
Every line here is a composite. It is not drawn from a client's records and no number on this page is a measured result.
