Contractors and trades / pest control

One Monday at a pest control company.

Somebody who has just seen one is not going to think it over. They are going to call the next number.

A trade bought on impulse, at the exact moment of discovery, which is rarely during office hours. A composite day, not a client's records. Nothing here is a measured result.

Time

What happens

What the system does

6:10am

What happens

Somebody turned the kitchen light on and something moved.

What the system does

Answers in under a minute. Asks what they saw, roughly how many, and which room. Takes a photograph if they have one.

7:30am

What happens

A caller wants to know what it was.

What the system does

Will not identify anything from a description. Says a technician does that on site, and that the treatment depends entirely on the answer.

8:45am

What happens

Somebody asks what a treatment costs.

What the system does

Gives the range the company approved and names what moves it: the size of the house, what it is, and whether it is one visit or a program.

9:50am

What happens

A caller asks what they can spray themselves in the meantime.

What the system does

Declines. Says the wrong product scatters some species and makes the real treatment harder, which is true and is also why they should wait.

11:15am

What happens

Somebody asks whether it is safe for the dog.

What the system does

Answers from the approved material about what the company uses and what it asks households to do on the day. Does not go further than the sheet.

1:20pm

What happens

A quarterly customer thinks their service was due last week.

What the system does

Recognized and handed to the office with the account attached. Does not guess at a date.

3:00pm

What happens

Somebody selling a house needs an inspection letter.

What the system does

Says the company does that, asks the closing date, and marks it as dated work rather than routine.

5:40pm

What happens

A landlord is calling about a tenant complaint, not their own house.

What the system does

Takes both the landlord and the property, and asks who will let the technician in. That question saves the visit.

9:05pm

What happens

Something in the bathroom, and nobody in that house is going to sleep.

What the system does

Answers, takes the address, and says a person will call first thing. Does not promise tonight, because nobody is coming tonight.

The two that mattered arrived before seven in the morning and after nine at night. Neither is an hour anybody answers the phone, and both callers had already decided. The only question was whose number picked up.

Every line here is a composite. It is not drawn from a client's records and no number on this page is a measured result.
