ClientCaptor Talk to us

Contractors and trades / electrical contractor

One Wednesday at an electrical contractor.

Every call sounds the same until somebody mentions a burning smell.

A trade where the smallest job and the largest one arrive through the same inbox. A composite day, not a client's records. Nothing here is a measured result.

Time

What happens

What the system does

6:50am

What happens

A landlord texts before the workday. An outlet in a rental has stopped working.

What the system does

Replies inside a minute. Asks which room, whether anything else on that side of the house is out, and for the best number. Does not walk anybody through a panel.

7:40am

What happens

A homeowner says an outlet smells like it is burning.

What the system does

Stops asking questions. Says to leave it alone and to call the fire department if there is smoke, then takes the address and rings a phone. This one is not a message to read later.

9:15am

What happens

Somebody wants to know why their breaker keeps tripping.

What the system does

Will not diagnose it. Says a breaker that trips repeatedly is doing its job and that finding out why is an on-site question. Takes the details instead of guessing at a cause.

10:30am

What happens

A retired couple asks what a whole-house generator runs.

What the system does

Gives the range the shop approved and names what moves it: the size of the house, the fuel supply, the distance from the meter, and whether the existing panel can take it. Calls it a range and not a quote.

11:45am

What happens

A homeowner asks whether the service change really needs a permit.

What the system does

Says yes, plainly. It is inspected work in this county, and unpermitted work is a problem the homeowner inherits at closing. Does not soften it to keep the conversation friendly.

1:10pm

What happens

Somebody asks how to run a circuit for a hot tub themselves.

What the system does

Refuses. Electric is on the never list and the answer does not change because the caller sounds confident. Offers to have a person call.

2:30pm

What happens

Both trucks are on the same panel swap and the power is off to the house.

What the system does

Inquiries keep arriving and keep getting answered. None of them reach either truck.

4:20pm

What happens

A customer from last month calls about the inspection.

What the system does

Matched to the job it belongs to and handed to the person who pulled the permit. Nobody is asked to explain their own address twice.

8:15pm

What happens

A property manager asks about service work across a small commercial plaza.

What the system does

Answered from the approved file and handed to a person for the morning. A plaza is not a dead outlet, and the list says so.

One of these needed him inside the hour and the rest did not. None of them found that out from a voicemail greeting. Sorting the dangerous from the routine has to happen before he climbs down off a ladder, not after.

Every line here is a composite. It is not drawn from a client's records and no number on this page is a measured result.
